Jakkolwiek lotnictwo kojarzy sie z nowoczesnością, znalazło zastosowanie w dziedzinach ludzkiej działalności istniejących od zarania cywilizacji. Taką dziedziną jest rolnictwo -- dział gospodarki, który zajmuje się produkcją żywności, a bez którego nie mogłyby powstać i rozwijać się społeczeństwa, ich kultura i technika. Nic więc dziwnego, że krótko po narodzinach lotnictwa maszyny latające zostały wykorzystane również w tym obszarze. Dzięki zaletom takim, jak duża prędkość, znaczny udźwig, wielka mobilność i spory zasięg, samolotów i śmigłowców z powodzeniem użyto w roli latających maszyn rolniczych. Sto lat rozwoju uczyniło z agrolotnictwa wyspecjalizowaną, w pełni profesjonalną dziedzinę zastosowania statków powietrznych.

It was agricultural aviation that for many years was a Polish speciality. After World War II, Poland as part of the so-called Eastern Bloc became the main producer of agricultural aviation equipment. Based on domestic industry and research centres, methods for the effective use of agricultural aeroplanes and helicopters were developed, and large-scale service enterprises were established. Numerous pilots were trained in Poland for demanding agricultural aviation work, including many from abroad. Both Polish designs and Polish pilots and technicians became an "export commodity", carrying out work on every continent where people cultivate the land.
The story of agricultural aviation is also the story of the achievements of Polish scientists who laid the foundations for the use of flying agricultural machines; engineers who designed and produced excellent agricultural aviation equipment; managers who organised services; and pilots flying "with wheels skimming the ground", performing difficult and dangerous tasks. People thanks to whom Polish wings appeared under the skies of distant countries, carrying out beneficial work for their inhabitants.
