18 December at the Museum: A Special Guest Will Talk About the Officers of the 2nd Aviation Regiment

DATE:05 / 12 / 2025

The Polish Aviation Museum proudly invites you to an event that will certainly captivate all lovers of Polish aviation! On Thursday, 18 December 2025 at 13:00, in the conference hall, an extremely interesting lecture will be given by the researcher and populariser of Polish aviation history — Dr Mariusz Niestrawski.

Our distinguished guest holds a doctorate in humanities, is a curator and a graduate of the Faculty of History at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań — and above all, a passionate enthusiast of Polish aviation who, on his YouTube channel „Lotnicza Historia Polski” (Aviation History of Poland), brings the story of our nation’s wings closer to a wide audience.

On Kraków’s military aviation in the reborn state after 100 years

During the lecture, Dr Niestrawski will speak about the personnel of the 2nd Aviation Regiment in the years 1921–1925 — a period crucial from the point of view of the development of Polish military aviation. Listeners will learn, among other things, how in the reborn Republic of Poland, aviation — formally the fifth branch of the armed forces after infantry, cavalry, artillery and engineers — was becoming a matter of priority for a small group of enthusiasts.

The talk will focus on the organisational structure of the regiment, its personnel, squadrons and equipment, and above all on how much was happening in Polish aviation — enough even then to believe that in a future war, it could play a decisive role. The presentation will feature facts, documents and archival materials — without unnecessary interpretation — to convey the real picture of the dynamic development of aviation in the first years after the regaining of independence.

For us, as a Museum, this subject holds special significance: our headquarters are located on the grounds of the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airfield — the cradle of the 2nd Aviation Regiment. Thanks to this lecture, we will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the roots, traditions and spirit of the formation that built Polish wings over the years.

We warmly invite you!
