Sky Rescuers – Night of Museums 2026 at the Polish Aviation Museum

DATE:07 / 05 / 2026

On this special night of May 15th, we invite you to a world where aviation isn’t just about technology and history—it’s also about saving lives! This year’s Night of Museums at the Polish Aviation Museum, held under the theme “Sky Rescuers,” will be dedicated to air rescue services—their history, mission, and extraordinary, courageous daily service. From 7:00 PM to midnight, a wealth of aviation-related attractions await on the Museum grounds—be sure to check out the details.

Aviation that saves lives

Air rescue services have played a key role in the safety system for decades – providing medical transport, participating in search and rescue operations, and operating in areas where, in critical situations, land access may be impossible.

During this year’s Night of Museums, we will explore both the history of air ambulance services in Poland and their contemporary landscape. Visitors will learn about the specialized aircraft, equipment, and procedures used in rescue operations, and will also meet the service representatives who perform this demanding service daily.

Exhibition, first aid workshops, “flying hospital” and meetings with rescuers

The focal point of the event will be the “Sky Rescuers” exhibition. The exhibition will present the history, tasks, and daily service of units using aviation in rescue operations – both civilian and military. Numerous original, often unique photographs will be displayed documenting operations conducted in the mountains, at sea, during natural disasters, catastrophes, and medical missions. The exhibition, presented during Museum Night in the Main Building, will be complemented by numerous educational activities and demonstrations.

The program included, among others:

  • Meetings with pilots and rescuers,
  • First aid workshops led by emergency services,
  • Specialized lectures on the history and present of emergency aviation,
  • A dynamic demonstration of high-altitude rescue,
  • An opportunity to see inside an An-26 aircraft converted into an “air hospital” (Medical Evacuation Team),
  • A tour of an Mi-8 helicopter (the so-called “Papal Helicopter”), also used for special missions.

There will also be attractions for entire families – educational quizzes, interactive stations and the opportunity to take souvenir photos in flight suits.

Air rescue in museum collections and special attractions

Like every year, the Night of Museums is also a unique opportunity to see the Museum after dark.

Visitors will be able to enjoy:

It’s worth noting that the topic of air rescue and medical air transport has been a permanent feature of the Polish Aviation Museum for years. The Museum’s collection includes historic aircraft related to the development of air rescue and medical transport in Poland and Central Europe.

Visitors can see, among other things, the CSS-S 13 ambulance aircraft – one of the first Polish designs for airborne medical evacuation, developed from the legendary Po-2. The aircraft was equipped with a special cabin enabling the transport of a patient on a stretcher, along with a doctor and pilot.

The museum’s collection also includes a Czechoslovak Aero Ae-145 (on outdoor display), used for medical transport and liaison duties, among other things, and a Let L-200A Morava – a light business and ambulance aircraft used by civilian and medical services.

The CSS-S 13 and the Morawa are presented at the new permanent exhibition “Downwind and upwind– Civil Aviation” in Hangar No. 5, where they form part of the story of the history of civil, business and ambulance aviation in Poland.
