Today, at the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region, together with 9 other representatives of the scientific community and state services, Director Tomasz Kosecki signed a letter of intent concerning actions aimed at establishing the “Educational, Research and Emergency Services Training Centre in Małopolska”.
The concept of establishing an educational and research centre envisages carrying out conservation and restoration works necessary to maintain the functional and historical value of the runway and — within the scope permitted by regulations — its aviation functions (maintaining the airstrip for the organisation of aviation events and occasional take-offs and landings of aircraft). A properly restored area of the former runway would open up new possibilities — it could serve the development of scientific research, education, the advancement of research staff qualifications and the emergency services responsible for the safety of the region. The location of the centre in Czyżyny is favoured by the convenient position of the former runway in the immediate vicinity of the institutions involved in the partnership.
With this, we have taken the first step towards creating a local unit combining educational and cultural activities with training and research related to transport, rescue services and road safety.
This is a project created for you, for all residents — an open, well-managed space will be created that will fulfil an important function on the map of Kraków and Małopolska.
