The Polish Aviation Museum announces with deep sorrow that on 14 May 2024, Krzysztof Radwan, the long-serving Director of our institution, has passed away.
Krzysztof Radwan served as Director of the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków from 1989 to 2020. During these years, his main areas of activity were focused on the spatial, infrastructural and programmatic development of the Museum. Between 1992 and 1996, he oversaw the comprehensive restoration, combined with scientific research, of aircraft from the pioneering era of aviation and the Great War. Subsequent major achievements included the opening of the so-called “Small Hangar” with an exhibition of the aforementioned aircraft, permanent exhibitions — including 140 aircraft engines (one of the largest collections in the world) — and the exhibition “You Do Not Know Your Own…” presenting relics of 13 unique aircraft from both the pioneering era of aviation history and the post-war period.
Krzysztof Radwan oversaw the revitalisation of the former military grounds of our Museum and the construction of the Main Building — one of the most modern museum facilities in the country. We also owe the Małopolska Aviation Picnics to him.
Krzysztof passed away after a long and difficult illness, leaving behind fond memories.
Information about the date and place of the funeral will appear on our website.
