PLN 200,000 is the total pool of funds allocated by the Board of the Małopolska Region in 2024 for awards for cultural activities in the fields of artistic creation and promotion of culture, ethnography and preservation of local cultural identity in Małopolska, as well as the history and remembrance of the region’s heritage.
Applications are being accepted until 15 February 2024 for four awards:
The prestigious regional distinctions are open to enthusiasts of regional heritage, animators of folklore and tradition, regional creators and artists active in the fields of music, art, literature and multimedia, as well as patriots and educators of regional history.
The Małopolska Creativity Award is a prestigious distinction for artists, creators and culture animators from our region who can boast significant achievements in artistic creation and the promotion of culture, in particular for obtaining a laureate diploma at festivals, reviews, and competitions of national or international scope, as well as for realising artistically or culturally valuable projects that have contributed to the development and promotion of Małopolska.
The award is granted based on an assessment of the overall body of work, and in particular achievements of significant importance for the region realised in the last two years, in particular for:
The total pool of financial prizes under the Małopolska Creativity Award is PLN 80,000. The Chapter may grant up to 8 awards in a given year. Candidates for the Award may be nominated by: the Board of the Małopolska Region, the Culture Committee of the Małopolska Regional Assembly, cultural institutions registered and operating in the Małopolska region, creative and artistic associations registered and operating in the Małopolska region, schools and universities registered and operating in the Małopolska region, and local government units of the Małopolska Region.
Through the “Memory and Identity” Award, the Board of the Małopolska Region honours patriots and enthusiasts of national history. The award references the title of the last interview-book by Saint John Paul II, “Memory and Identity”, a collection of the Holy Father’s philosophical and historical reflections in which he presents his understanding of Polish identity, homeland, patriotism and national identity.
The award aims to build and strengthen the sense of national identity among Poles, inspire interest in and respect for the history of the region, pass on its legacy to future generations, shape patriotic and pro-social attitudes, and recognise the educational role of learning in shaping the national consciousness of Małopolska residents and their engagement in preserving the memory of the “Little Homeland”.
It is awarded in two categories, for:
non-governmental organisations that carry out tasks related to promoting the history of Poland, patriotic attitudes and maintaining cultural heritage, and individuals — enthusiasts and patriots who, on their own initiative, carry out activities of historical and patriotic character important from the perspective of local communities. The total pool of the “Memory and Identity” Award is PLN 60,000.
The Małopolska Region Roman Reinfuss Award for outstanding and exceptional achievements in the field of preserving local cultural identity in Małopolska is awarded annually for the overall body of work and for the realisation of valuable projects in the Małopolska area in the fields of:
The award is granted as an individual prize. In cases where married couples or members of a single family cultivate shared traditions and carry out activities in the field of cultural heritage protection, a joint award may be granted, provided that the candidates represent the same field of creative work. Under the Reinfuss Award, the Board of the Małopolska Region will distribute PLN 30,000.
The Małopolska Region Władysław Orkan Award for promoting the idea of regionalism and outstanding achievements in the field of artistic and cultural activities of local communities in Małopolska.
The aim of the award is to support local artistic communities active in the field of traditional regional culture, engaged in promoting the idea of regionalism and promoting values based on local traditions and customs.
The Award is open to institutions, artistic and cultural organisations or groups of people — including regional ensembles — as well as groups that create local cultural colour by passing on the heritage of generations, such as rural women’s associations, folk theatres, or local institutions engaged in the protection of intangible heritage. The award is granted to individuals whose life attitude supports the preservation of local cultural identity — for the overall body of work in the field of protection of local cultural heritage.
