On 1 March 2026, a ceremony marking the National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers — the steadfast heroes of the independence underground — took place in Nowy Sącz. The Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków, represented by Director Tomasz Kosecki, proudly participated in this special event.

The National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers celebrations in the Nowy Sącz area began at 14:00 at the Cross of the Nowy Sącz Cursed Soldiers at the Municipal Cemetery on ul. Rejtana in Nowy Sącz. Among those gathered who came to honour the memory of those who did not lay down their arms after the end of the Second World War was Director Tomasz Kosecki, representing the Polish Aviation Museum.

The ceremony included a communal prayer, the laying of flowers and candles, and the solemn singing of the national anthem, underscoring the importance and gravity of the event.

In addition to the main ceremony at the cemetery, as part of the Nowy Sącz celebrations, flowers and candles were also laid at the plaque dedicated to Fr Władysław Gurgacz SJ, chaplain to the Steadfast, at the Jesuit residence.

The National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers is a holiday established to commemorate the soldiers of the anti-communist and independence underground who fought for Poland’s sovereignty after the end of the Second World War. The Polish Aviation Museum, through its participation in such events, actively engages in cultivating the memory of Polish history and the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their Homeland.
