Mirosław Feric — Father, Pilot, Hero

Today we had the opportunity to learn more about Mirosław Feric, a World War II fighter ace and pilot in 303 Squadron, thanks to his son, Philip Methuen-Feric, who visited the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków.

After a brief welcome to the guests and a few words of thanks delivered by the Museum Director, Tomasz Kosecki, Philip Methuen-Feric spoke with great passion about the father he never knew. About a hero whose life ended too soon. About the medals he received for faithful service and the friendships he forged during the war.

Did you know that Mirosław Feric’s best friend was Jan Zumbach? They met in their first year at the officers’ school in Dęblin, both were assigned to the 111th Fighter Squadron, and subsequently to 303 Squadron.

The conversation was led by the Museum’s Deputy Director, Krzysztof Mroczkowski, who not only asked his typically apt questions but also said a few introductory words that certainly set the right atmosphere for the audience. He also read an excerpt from Arkady Fiedler’s book “Squadron 303”, which was met with enthusiasm by the pupils of Primary School No. 114 in Kraków — as you probably know, this book is one of the supplementary school readings.

Although the discussion was conducted in English, all those present could follow it comfortably, thanks to Museum employee Jarosław Dobrzyński, who translated every word into Polish.

Among those attending the meeting was Paweł Włodarczyk, Honorary Consul of Croatia.

We warmly thank you for the inspiring conversation!
