“A complete junk room, total junk room! […] And there, going through all those various artefacts and junk, I found two aviation flags” — this is how Lt Col (Pilot) Szczepan Kurpisz describes finding unique flags from the World War II period in London. Together with Col. Józef Brudnicki, in 1995 they boldly smuggled these precious mementoes to Poland. We invite you to watch this exceptional interview!

These unique canvases are material evidence of the presence of the Polish Air Forces in the West. They were used at Allied airfields as an element of marking operational zones in which Polish aviators, fighting for the freedom of England and their homeland, served. Today they constitute not only a priceless artefact of military technology, but also a moving symbol of fidelity to national colours — even far from the homeland, in the most difficult moments of its history.
