We are proud to announce that Hangar No. 5, which is hosting the exhibition ‘With the Wind and Against the Wind – Civil Aviation’, is taking part in the nationwide ‘Modernisation of the Year & Construction of the 21st Century’ competition. The project will be competing for the title of best project in the ‘Public Buildings’ category.
The nationwide ‘Modernisation of the Year & Construction of the 21st Century’ competition is a prestigious initiative promoting the best projects that stand out for their exceptional qualities and genuinely improve the spaces around us. The winners are selected by a jury comprising 37 distinguished experts, including professors from technical universities and other universities, as well as representatives from government ministries.
Hangar No. 5 was built on the site of the former hangar of the 2nd Aviation Regiment. It is currently the largest exhibition space constructed during the Museum’s existence. Covering a total area of over 3,000 m², it houses the permanent exhibition ‘With the Wind and Against the Wind – Civil Aviation’, which explores the history and remarkable achievements of Polish civil aviation over more than 100 years.
The building was handed over to the Museum by the Małopolska Province in October 2024 during an official ceremony. The permanent exhibition was opened to the public during the Małopolska celebrations of Polish Aviation Day on 24 August 2025.
The nomination in the competition marks the culmination of this ambitious project.
We encourage all aviation and architecture enthusiasts to support our entry in the online poll. How can you vote?
