The Soviet single-engine fighter MiG-21 made its maiden flight. The aircraft proved very popular – over 18,000 examples were built and entered service in 34 countries. In Poland, MiG-21s flew until the end of 2003. Several examples of the MiG-21 in versions F-13, PF, PFM, M, MF, R, U, UM, US, and Bis can be seen at the Polish Aviation Museum. Two types of Tumansky engines used on these aircraft are also on display.
The sports aircraft PZL-102 Kos made its maiden flight. Eight serial examples were built, of which 7 were exported.
