The Soviet fighter MiG-15, one of the first successful aircraft with swept wings, made its maiden flight. Approximately 13,000 examples were built. The aircraft was also produced in Poland under the name Lim. MiG-15 and several Lim versions are in the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.
The high-performance SZD-43 Orion glider made its maiden flight. Two examples were built, on which Polish pilots competed in the 1972 World Gliding Championships in Yugoslavia. Jan Wróblewski won and Franciszek Kępka placed third. The only surviving Orion is in the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.
