BMW 801D-2

Country:Germany
Type:radial engine
Year:1941

One of the best German radial engines used during World War II.
The engine was equipped with a fuel injection system, a two-stage supercharger, and the so-called Kommando Gerat — an automatic device controlling engine operation and propeller pitch. This made it easier for the pilot to manage the aircraft’s propulsion. The engine featured an original forced air-cooling system using a fan placed in front of the cylinders. It was used in, among others, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A and some versions of the Ju 88.
