The engine was designed at Societe Piemontese Automobili in Turin. These engines were also produced under licence by Breda. They were manufactured in three versions, differing in compression ratio. It was used in the SVA-4, SVA-5, SVA-9, SVA-10, and Ansaldo A-1 Balilla aircraft.
