EM-11C Orka

Country:Poland
Type:utility and touring aircraft
Year:2003

At the beginning of the 21st century, at the Marganski & Myslowski Aviation Works in Bielsko-Biala, a team led by Eng. Edward Marganski, consisting of Grzegorz Sadlek, Tadeusz Zbos, Mariusz Wolak, Lukasz Kielar, Tomasz Jasinski and Pawel Zyzak, designed the twin-engine EM-11 Orka executive and touring aircraft. It is a cantilever high-wing monoplane made entirely of composites, distinguished by excellent aerodynamic design, and boarding the 4-seat cabin is as easy as getting into a car. The engines are mounted on the trailing edge of the wings, so that the rotating pusher propellers do not obstruct cabin access. The aircraft was designed in accordance with European CS-23 certification specifications and submitted for certification to EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).

The Orka was also intended to serve as a patrol aircraft, with the possibility of installing various types of specialised equipment. The aircraft received a type certificate; a total of 5 examples were produced.

The first Orka prototype (SP-YEN), which made its maiden flight on 8 August 2003, was powered by Rotax 912S engines of 100 hp and had fixed landing gear.

The exhibited prototype of the production version EM-11C, also called Orka II, with registration SP-YEP, made its maiden flight in Bielsko-Biala on 20 October 2005, piloted by Wieslaw Cena. It differs from the first version by the use of more powerful Lycoming IO-320 engines of 160 hp, landing lights in the front of the fuselage, richer avionics equipment and retractable landing gear. It was donated to the Museum’s collection by Grzegorz Myslowski, president of Marganski & Myslowski Aviation Works, in November 2022. The third prototype SP-MEO had a T-tail configuration.
