A second-generation version of the MiG-21 aircraft. In the NATO code it bore the designation Fishbed-D. An interceptor fighter equipped with the RP-21 radar station, capable of carrying RS-2US radar beam-guided missiles and R-3 infrared-guided missiles, without fixed gun armament, with an additional dorsal fuel tank. Produced between 1962 and 1966. Between 1964 and 1965, Poland purchased 84 aircraft, operated until 1989.
The example with side number 2004 was delivered in June 1965 and assigned to the 40th Fighter Aviation Regiment in Swidwin. After completing its service, it was transferred to the Polish Aviation Museum in 1990.
