A full-scale demonstrator of the Perun suborbital rocket, created using SIR (Suborbital Inexpensive Rocket) technology. The rocket was designed by SpaceForest Ltd from Gdynia, one of the pioneers in using green propellants for hybrid rocket engines (using solid fuel and liquid oxidizer).
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is used as the oxidizer and modified paraffin wax (an ecological rocket fuel) as the propellant, and the engine does not emit harmful substances into the atmosphere during operation. The company also developed a composite structure winding technology used to build the rocket, making it lighter and more durable.
The rocket is designed for multiple use. After reaching its planned altitude, it is to descend freely for several minutes, and in the final phase of flight, a parachute system is activated, enabling a soft landing.
During tests, the demonstrator reached an altitude of 9,750 m and a speed of
Mach 1. The first successful launch took place on 25 January 2020 from the military training ground in Drawsko Pomorskie, and the first payload sent was a cream puff straw.
