A radial engine unusually cooled by water.
The engine was designed by the duo of Swiss engineers Georges Marius Henri-Georges Canton and Pierre Unne and manufactured at the Societe de Moteurs Salmson plant in Billancourt.
The Z 9 was another in the line of radial engines in which water cooling was employed. It was used in the Salmson 2A2 and Farman F.60 Goliath aircraft.
