An Open Class competition glider of wooden construction. The chief designer was Eng. Bogumil Szuba. The Zefir 1 prototype of very complex construction was built in 1958. Based on the experience gained from it, the Zefir 2 glider was developed with a simplified construction. It was first flown in March 1960.
That year, Jerzy Makula and Edward Popiel finished second and third on it at the World Gliding Championships in Cologne. In 1962, the serial production version Zefir 2A was flown with a modified tail section. In 1963, Edward Makula and Jerzy Popiel finished first and second on these gliders at the World Gliding Championships in Junin, Argentina.
Edward Makula then completed an open distance flight of 717.5 km. 21 Zefir 2A gliders were produced at the Sports Aviation Equipment Works No. 2 in Jezow. Some were redesignated Zefir 2B after modification of the braking parachute.
The exhibited example SP-2371, serial number P-405, on which Edward Makula won the World Championships in 1963, was donated to the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum on 2 February 1989 by the Wroclaw Aero Club.
