SZD-22C Mucha Standard

Country:Poland
Type:training and aerobatic glider
Year:1958

The SZD-22 Mucha Standard is the last and most advanced modification of the Mucha glider, developed at the SZD factory in Bielsko-Biala by engineers Wladyslaw Nowakowski and Rudolf Grzywacz for participation in the World Gliding Championships in Leszno in 1958 in the newly introduced Standard Class.

The first prototype with registration SP-1748 was first flown on 10 February 1958 by Adam Zientek, and the second, with a redesigned wing, on 6 June 1958. On the first prototype SP-1748, Adam Witek won the World Gliding Championships in Leszno. 286 examples of the SZD-22A, B and C versions were produced.

In the 1960s and 1970s, it was the main type of training and competition glider in Polish aero clubs, very popular due to its excellent flying characteristics. Many of them are still flying. Over 90 examples were exported to Austria, Australia, Belgium, France, Finland, Germany, Sweden, the USA and other countries.

The exhibited example, serial number F-607, registration SP-2292, was donated in 1992 by the Gliwice Aero Club.
