SZD-25A Lis

Country:Poland
Type:training glider
Year:1960

The SZD-25A Lis is a training glider of mixed construction (metal-wood-fabric), developed by a team led by Eng. Zbigniew Badura. It was intended to be a technologically simpler and cheaper equivalent of the SZD-22 Mucha Standard glider.

It used wooden wings from the SZD-22 Mucha Standard glider and a metal fuselage, covered with fabric in the forward section, based on the construction of the SZD-16 Gil glider. The prototype was first flown on 5 March 1960 by Eng. Stanislaw Skrzydlewski. After necessary modifications, including wing washout, reinforcement of the wing spars and horizontal stabiliser mounting, modification of the tail skid and rudder outline, the SZD-25A production version was developed.

The first “Lis A” was flown for the first time on 16 August 1961 in Krosno. Production was undertaken by the Sports Aviation Equipment Works No. 5 in Krosno in 1962. 30 examples were produced, of which 12 were sold abroad. The Lis glider did not meet the expectations placed in it, as it did not have high performance or good flying characteristics. They were used in Polish aero clubs until the early 1980s.

The exhibited example, serial number 740, SP-2356, was used by the Piotrkow Trybunalski Aero Club from 1962 to 1981, and subsequently donated to the Museum’s collection.
