TS-11 Iskra bis DF side number 1409 was produced in 1975. The aircraft served in several air units, including the 28th Fighter Aviation Regiment based at Slupsk-Redzikowo airfield. When the 1990s brought the opportunity to apply non-standard markings to aircraft, Iskra ‘1409’, one of 4 Iskras of the regiment, received special paint scheme to mark the unit’s 40th anniversary. The aircraft was painted in September 1992 and the design featuring sea wave motifs, the Pomeranian griffin and an Indian chief’s head (the emblem of the 1st Squadron) was created by Senior Warrant Officer Ryszard Kuras and Senior Warrant Officer Tomasz Kowalski.
In 1995, the aircraft was transferred to the 58th Flight Training Regiment in Deblin (from 2001, the 1st Flight Training Centre). Iskra ‘1409’ was restored to the standard paint scheme. In 2014, the aircraft was transferred to the Polish Aviation Museum, where the idea of restoring the striking “Slupsk” paint scheme was born.
In July 2015, the paint scheme was recreated by Filip Jereczek-Bambrowicz, Bogdan Zolnierowicz, Zbigniew Zolnierowicz and Wojciech Butrycz, along with one of the authors of the original paint scheme — Ryszard Kuras.
