The TS-11 Iskra is a jet trainer aircraft, designed in 1958 by a team led by eng. Tadeusz Soltyk. The prototype first flew in 1960. Serial production was launched at WSK PZL Mielec in 1963. In 1964, four world speed records were set on the Iskra.
In 1991, 6 examples of the Iskra bis DF from the 19th production series were converted to the reconnaissance version TS-11R Novax, fitted with an American-made Bendix/King RDS-81 weather radar and a GPS receiver. The radar was operated by an observer occupying the rear cockpit seat. The Naval Aviation used the TS-11R for maritime reconnaissance tasks.
Between 1991 and 2003, the TS-11R Iskra Bis DF aircraft served in Naval Aviation units at Siemirowice: the 7th Special Aviation Regiment of the Navy, (from 1 January 1996) the 3rd (from 2 September 1997, Kashubian) Air Squadron in Siemirowice, and (from 1 January 2003) the 30th Kashubian Air Squadron. The last flight of a TS-11 in naval aviation took place on 25 February 2003.
After production, the museum example was delivered to the 2nd Fighter Aviation Regiment in Goleniow, and in April 1988 transferred to the 58th Flight Training Regiment in Deblin. It served at the Naval Aviation base in Siemirowice from 1991 to 2002. In 2003 it was transferred to the 3rd Tactical Air Squadron in Poznan-Krzesiny, and later to Deblin (1st Flight Training Centre). The aircraft was transferred to the Museum in 2007.
