An unsuccessful modification of the Mi-2 helicopter. In the early 1970s, the Research and Development Centre of WSK Swidnik undertook work on an assault version of the Mi-2 helicopter. The Mi-2M2 version was developed with a redesigned fuselage, in which the fuel tank was placed under the cargo cabin floor, significantly increasing its volume, with troop benches along the cabin walls and two pairs of sliding doors at the front and rear on both sides of the fuselage. The undercarriage track was also widened. The powerplant consisted of modified GTD-350P engines of 450 hp. Changes also included the electrical and fuel systems.
The prototype was flown on 1 July 1974. The new version exhibited poorer flight characteristics and a higher takeoff weight than the original Mi-2; moreover, the GTD-350P engines caused problems, and therefore the helicopter did not enter series production.
In 1977, the museum example was placed at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, which transferred the helicopter to the Museum in 2007.
