A turbojet engine of entirely Polish design. The SO‑1 was developed at the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw for the new TS‑11 Iskra trainer-combat aircraft.
After initial difficulties, the engine was refined and in 1968 serial production began, totalling approximately 700 units. It is of single-flow design, with a 7-stage compressor.
As a result of modernisation, the SO‑3 engine was developed, used in later versions of the TS‑11 Iskra aircraft.
