On Sunday, 12 July, ceremonies commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Allied airdrops for the Home Army took place on Dzielec Hill in Słopnice. The Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków once again had the pleasure of taking part in this event, showcasing its flying exhibit, the Yak-18 aircraft.

The Polish Aviation Museum once again took part in the celebrations marking the anniversary of the Allied airdrops for the Home Army on Dzielec Hill in Słopnice. For many years, this event has served as a reminder of the air operations carried out in support of the Polish Underground State and of the courage of the crews who brought aid to Home Army soldiers.

Despite unfavourable weather, which prevented part of the programme from going ahead, the flypast was successfully carried out. Among the aircraft flying over Dzielec was the Museum’s Yak-18, piloted by Janusz Miś. The presence of historic aircraft is an important part of the commemorations, serving as a reminder of the role of aviation in the events of 82 years ago.

The programme of the celebrations, organised by the Municipality of Słopnice and the Historical Re-enactment Association of the 1st Podhale Rifle Regiment of the Home Army, included a patriotic ceremony and an air show. Participants paid tribute to Allied airmen and Home Army soldiers by laying flowers and candles at the obelisk commemorating the events of the Second World War.

The annual commemorations in Słopnice mark the only successful Allied airdrops for the Home Army in the Limanowa region. Thanks to these airdrops, the underground fighters received weapons, uniforms and the equipment necessary to continue the fight. We would like to thank the organisers for their invitation and all participants for joining us in honouring the memory of these heroes. We are delighted that our historic aircraft were once again able to form part of this important historical ceremony.
