On August 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Polish Aviation Museum once again joined the nationwide celebrations of the anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising.
At precisely “W” hour, the air raid siren sounded in front of the Museum’s main building. For a symbolic minute, we paused our daily routine to pay tribute to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising and the Allied airmen who, with tremendous sacrifice, brought aid to the struggling capital, carrying out extremely dangerous airdrop missions carrying weapons, ammunition, and medicine.
This year’s commemorations were attended by firefighters from the State Fire Service: Rescue and Firefighting Units No. 1 and 7, who arrived at the Museum with their combat vehicles. Their presence underscored the solemn nature of the event and honored those who fought for freedom 82 years ago. The ceremony was also honored by a banner display from the Krakow Aviation Senior Club, whom we sincerely thank for their presence and for joining us in paying tribute to the heroes of the Uprising. For the next 63 days – the exact length of the Warsaw Uprising – flags bearing the symbol of Fighting Poland will fly in front of the Museum’s main building. This is a symbol of remembrance of the courage, determination, and sacrifice of the insurgents, and a reminder that history obliges us to cherish the memory of those who fought for a free Poland.
