Today, 19 May at 12:15 PM, on the grounds of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow at Al. Jana Pawła II 39, a solemn ceremony of consecration and laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Main Building of the Museum took place.
The consecration was performed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow, Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. Present were the Marshal of the Małopolska Region Marek Nawara, Senator Janusz Sepioł, Directors of Departments of the Małopolska Regional Government Office, including the Director of the Department of Culture, National Heritage and Tourism Krzysztof Markiel and the Director of the Department of Regional Investment Anna Marszał, directors of cultural institutions from the Małopolska Region, representatives of the Polish Air Force, and Bartłomiej Kisielewski – the designer from the Berlin office Pysall.Ruge Architekten, co-author of the award-winning design selected in the international architectural competition for the new building of the Polish Aviation Museum announced in 2004.
The ceremony began with a speech by the Director of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow, Krzysztof Radwan, followed by the Marshal of the Małopolska Region, Marek Nawara. After the speeches, the foundation stone document was solemnly signed, and the guests then proceeded to the construction site, where the document was laid and the construction was consecrated. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Bartłomiej Kisielewski presented the design of the new building of the Polish Aviation Museum, according to which the investment is being carried out.
It should be noted that the entire investment is financed from the budget of the Małopolska Region and from EU funds under the Małopolska Regional Operational Programme for 2007–2013. Financial resources allocated to this investment: in 2001–2007: PLN 4.5 million (Regional Contract). Planned for 2008–2010: PLN 45.6 million, including PLN 30.7 million from the ERDF, PLN 14.9 million from the Regional budget. Planned for 2008: PLN 22.1 million, including PLN 15.6 million from the ERDF, PLN 6.5 million from the Regional budget.
