In the second half of September 2010, the grand opening of the new main building of the Polish Aviation Museum will take place. The building, the new heart of the institution, will serve a number of functions, with educational and exhibition purposes at the forefront. Permanent and temporary exhibitions will allow visitors to explore selected collections.
Intensive preparatory work has been underway for some time. Staff from the Museum Collections Inventory and Museum Collections Conservation departments are involved in the substantive work on preparing the exhibits. It is also worth noting that a group of volunteers from Nowy Sącz visited the Museum once again. This time they joined the conservation work on the TS-8 Bies aircraft. In recent days, the first aircraft were brought into the interior. Planes, gliders, hang gliders and a motor glider were suspended in the two largest rooms of the new main building.
The Exhibition Hall now houses: the IS-4 Jastrząb aerobatic glider, the SZD-6X Nietoperz experimental glider, the Blériot XI pioneer aircraft, Ryszard Groth’s hang glider, and a replica of Otto Lilienthal’s hang glider. The Educational Hall features: the PW-2D Gapa glider, the J-3 Eagle aircraft, and the Altostratus motor glider. In the near future, the collection will be supplemented with additional exhibits.
