Balloon Competition

The 1st National Balloon Competition for the Aleksander Wańkowicz Travelling Cup began, with three crews participating.

Maiden Flight of the Draken

The Swedish fighter Saab J35 Draken made its maiden flight. 651 examples were built and operated by the air forces of Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Austria. One example (J35J version used in Sweden until 1999) is an exhibit at the Polish Aviation Museum.

Founding of Emirates Airlines

Emirates Airlines was founded. When it started operations, the airline had at its disposal a Boeing 737 and an Airbus A300.
