First Parachute Jump

On this day, over St. Louis, Missouri, American Albert Berry made the first parachute jump from an aircraft. The jump was from an altitude of 460 metres, using a Benoist biplane.

Balloon Flight Around the World

On this day, the Breitling Orbiter 3 balloon (crew: Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones) launched from Switzerland on the first successful balloon flight around the world. After covering 40,813 kilometres in 19 days, 21 hours, and 47 minutes, they landed in Egypt.
