Frenchman Louis Blériot, at the controls of a Blériot XI aircraft, made the first flight across the English Channel by aeroplane. Covering the 35-kilometre route from Calais to Dover took the aviator 37 minutes. A replica of the Blériot XI built by Paweł Zołotow in 1967 is in the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.
