Disaster in the Andes

An FH-227 passenger aircraft belonging to the Uruguayan Air Force crashed in the Andes on the Chilean-Argentine border. The survivors were forced to camp for 72 days in a desolate mountain area at an altitude of 3,600 m. Ultimately, 16 of 45 people were rescued, and their story inspired books and films.
