First Take-Off from a Ship
American pilot Eugene Ely took off from a ship for the first time in history. The light cruiser USS Birmingham, fitted with a flight deck, served as the “aircraft carrier”. The Curtiss Pusher aircraft touched the water surface after take-off, but the flight continued to a successful beach landing.
