Maiden Flight of the Condor

The German maritime patrol and bomber aircraft Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor made its maiden flight. The aircraft was powered by four Bramo 323 engines. An engine of this type is in the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.

The de Havilland Comet made its maiden flight in the United Kingdom. Produced between 1952 and 1967, the aircraft became the first passenger jet to enter serial production. 125 examples were built.

Shooting Down of an Israeli Constellation

An Israeli Lockheed Constellation passenger aircraft flying from London to Tel Aviv deviated from its course, violating Bulgarian airspace. The aircraft was shot down by Bulgarian fighters, killing 58 people.

Tragedy at Skniłów

During an air show at Skniłów in Ukraine, a Su-27 fighter crashed into the spectator area. At least 78 people were killed and several hundred were injured. The pilots managed to eject after the aircraft hit the ground.
