Maiden Flight of the F-16

At Edwards Air Force Base in California, the 90-minute official maiden flight of the American multi-role fighter F-16, then designated YF-16, took place. The aircraft had first risen into the air on 20 January during a taxiing test, which was unintended.

The competition glider SZD-42 Jantar 2 made its maiden flight – the only glider in the history of the Glider Experimental Works (SZD) with a glide ratio exceeding 50.
