The German bomber and reconnaissance aircraft Arado Ar 234 made its maiden flight. It was the first jet-powered bomber in history. The aircraft’s cruising speed was 700 km/h. 214 examples were built, of which only one has survived to the present day.
The amateur aircraft J-1 Prząśniczka, designed by Jarosław Janowski, made its maiden flight. The aircraft has the pusher propeller layout characteristic of this designer’s projects. The Prząśniczka was built from plans by amateur constructors in Poland and abroad. One example (belonging to Jarosław Janowski) is an exhibit at the Polish Aviation Museum.
