Founding of PZL

The Council of Ministers issued a decree transforming the Central Aviation Workshops into Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze (State Aviation Works). The first aircraft produced there was the French fighter Wibault 70, while the first design developed at PZL was the PZL P.1 fighter.

Maiden Flight of the Jastrząb

The IS-4 Jastrząb aerobatic glider, capable of reaching 450 km/h, made its maiden flight. 37 Jastrząbs were built, two of which are in the collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.

Maiden Flight of the F-111

The American long-range aircraft F-111 made its maiden flight; it was the first mass-produced aircraft with variable-sweep wings.

Maiden Flight of the Tomcat

The American fighter Grumman F-14 Tomcat made its maiden flight.

Maiden Flight of the Puchacz

The two-seat fibreglass glider SZD-50 Puchacz made its maiden flight. Approximately 300 examples were produced, two-thirds of which were exported to over a dozen countries.

The six-engine transport aircraft An-225 Mriya made its maiden flight. The aircraft has an empty weight of 200 tonnes, a payload of 50 tonnes (externally), a wingspan of 88.4 m, and a length of 84 m.
