The Technical Institute of Aviation began operations in Warsaw. Between 1948 and 1952, the centre was called the Main Institute of Aviation; since 1952 it has operated as the Institute of Aviation.

Maiden Flight of the Puchatek
The two-seat glider PZL KR-03 Puchatek, designed in Krosno, made its maiden flight. It is the only Polish all-metal glider produced in series.
