Maiden Flight of the Bearcat

The American carrier-based fighter Grumman F8F Bearcat made its maiden flight. It was the last piston-engine fighter by Grumman. Its design incorporated solutions known to the Americans from a captured Focke-Wulf 190. 1,265 Bearcats were built.

The British training aircraft BAE Hawk made its maiden flight. Over 1,000 examples of this single-engine jet low-wing monoplane have been built. The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, fly this type of aircraft.
