Red-and-White Checkerboard

The aviation checkerboard became the insignia of Polish military aviation. The originally adopted layout had the upper-left square in red; since 1993, the checkerboard has the upper-left square in white.

Disaster Near Malakasa

A LOT Polish Airlines Lockheed L-10 Electra passenger aircraft crashed in the Greek mountains near Athens. There were five passengers and two crew members on board. Pilot Józef Bargiel was killed.
