Shooting Down of a Passenger Aircraft

On this day, a Boeing 727 passenger aircraft of Libyan Arab Airlines, due to a malfunction and navigation error, violated the airspace of the Israeli-occupied Sinai Peninsula and was shot down by an Israeli F-4 Phantom fighter. The Boeing crashed into a sand dune. 108 people were killed; 5 survived, including one of the pilots.
