Tin Donkey

The German two-seat experimental aircraft Junkers J1, the world’s first all-metal aircraft, nicknamed “Blechesel” (Tin Donkey), made its maiden flight. The aircraft had a much lower rate of climb than contemporary wooden designs and did not enter serial production.

Pirat Disaster

Test pilot Stanisław Stelmaszyk was killed during test flights of the SZD-30 Pirat glider. The cause proved to be a design flaw in the Pirat, which could cause the ailerons to lock during a spin.
