X-15 Altitude Record
Joseph A. Walker, flying the North American X-15 suborbital experimental rocket aircraft, set a flight altitude record of 107 km 960 m, which the International Aeronautical Federation recognises as a spaceflight. During the record flight, the aircraft reached a speed of 6,106 km/h.
