On Sunday 4 October 2026, from 10.00 to 18.00, the event ‘Keirō no Hi: A Cultural Weekend for Senior Citizens’ will take place. It is organised by the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in collaboration with the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków.
During this year’s Polish Aviation Festival, we celebrated the centenary of the legendary flight on the Warsaw–Tokyo–Warsaw route. Now, aviation experiences and Japanese themes will come together once again, this time within the walls of the Manggha Museum. This coming Sunday, 4 October, together with the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, we invite you to a day full of aviation stories, featuring not only the tales of extraordinary women who conquered the skies and activities for the youngest visitors, but also Japanese tea, theatre and art.
The event forms part of the nationwide initiative ‘Seniors’ Cultural Weekend’ and is inspired by Keirō no Hi, or Respect for the Aged Day, which is celebrated in Japan and is also a national holiday there.
The programme includes, amongst other things:

“Senior Citizens’ Weekend with Culture” is a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, running since 2011, which makes it easier for people to discover what cultural institutions in their local area have to offer. It aims to encourage members of the older generation to participate actively in cultural life and to combat social exclusion by involving older people in regular participation in cultural life in the broadest sense.
This year’s edition is taking place under the slogan ‘Open up to culture’, which emphasises that culture is a space open to everyone, regardless of age. Over 800 institutions from across Poland are taking part in the campaign, including theatres, museums, galleries, libraries, cultural centres and other venues.
