1st Lt. observer
Franciszek Fugiel (1904–1942) was a captain observer of the Polish Army and a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force, an officer of the Polish Air Force in Great Britain during World War II. He was born on 20 August 1904 in Gorlice. He served in the military aviation of the Second Polish Republic, including the 2nd Aviation Regiment. During World War II he served in No. 301 Bomber Squadron “Pomerania”, carrying out combat missions over occupied Europe as part of RAF bombing operations. During his service he achieved the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the British air force. He was killed on 26 February 1942 during a raid on Kiel. His aircraft did not return from the mission; neither the wreckage nor the crew’s remains were found. It is assumed that it was shot down and fell into the sea.
