On 3 September 1939 the PZL.23 “Karaś” aircraft in which Mieczysław Mazur was flying was shot down near the Radomsko–Pławno road during Luftwaffe combat operations. As a result of the crash Mieczysław Mazur was killed. The crew commander, Capt. Observer Stefan Karol Alberti, survived, as did the pilot, Cpl. Pilot Wacław Buczyłko, who managed to land the damaged aircraft. Mieczysław Mazur was buried in the village of Karsy.
