On National Independence Day, the grounds of the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków hosted the Kite Festival — a joyful event for all sky enthusiasts, both young and old.
As every year, together with the Scout Club of Aviation and Space Modelling in Kraków and the 19th KLDH “Sunny Roads” Scout Troop named after Żwirko and Wigura, we gathered on the runway of the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airfield to celebrate freedom, joy and aviation traditions in a unique way — by flying kites together, which colourfully decorated the November sky.
The weather that day was cooperative — the sky was overcast but rain-free. Unfortunately, the very weak wind forced the competitors to make extra efforts to keep their kites airborne… by running!
In addition to the competition, which was the main highlight of the Festival programme, there were also other attractions, such as:
A total of 30 participants took part in the competition — 20 in the FLP category (flat kites) and 10 in the FLS category (box kites). The kites were judged in two stages: static and flight. The judging panel awarded points for construction, quality of workmanship, decoration, flight quality and any special effects.
The Polish Aviation Museum Model Workshop was represented by a ten-person team that actively participated in the competition, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship in their designs and skills. As a result, they won podium places in both categories. The best builders and pilots were honoured with diplomas and prizes.
We thank all participants for taking part, for their engagement and the fun we shared, and we congratulate the winners. We are delighted that we could meet again and spend this special day in a joyful, family atmosphere.
