From 9 to 13 February 2026, the Polish Aviation Museum hosted the winter day camp “Aviation Pioneers”, in which children aged 8–12 took part. The programme was designed to combine historical education with elements of science, creative activities and team-building games.

This year’s winter day camp was devoted to the pioneers of aviation — people who were the first to dare to fulfil dreams of flying. Participants learned about the history of the first flying machines, the stories of the Montgolfier brothers, the Wright brothers and Czesław Tański.

It was an exceptional week full of diverse activities — from themed guided tours of the Museum’s collections, through art workshops and experiments, to field games and educational-recreational trips. Each attraction allowed the children to discover the history of aviation in a practical, engaging way, while also providing plenty of fun and opportunities for shared activities among peers.

Guided tours of the exhibition and educational riddles

The children participated in themed guided tours of the Museum’s collections, which allowed them to take a real journey through time — they learned about the history of the first flying machines, the achievements of aviation pioneers and the key stages of the development of this field. Additionally, riddles specially prepared for this occasion, linked to selected exhibits, engaged the young explorers and helped reinforce the knowledge they had gained.

Aerolaboratorium Workshops

During the practical workshops, the children learned about various models of flying machines and carried out various experiments using, among other things, balloons. In this way, they could discover in practice the mechanisms responsible for lifting objects into the air, answering the question: how is it possible that aeroplanes and other objects can lift off the ground?

Trips

As part of the day camp, our young participants went on two trips:

  • At Nowohuckie Centrum Kultury (Nowa Huta Cultural Centre), the children watched the play “Brothers of the Northern Lights” — a shadow theatre inspired by lesser-known Baltic fairy tales. The performance captivated the young audience, who followed the story with great interest.
  • The second attraction was a visit to FunPark, where the group took part in laser paintball games. The activities provided plenty of excitement and fun, offering an opportunity for active play and team bonding.

Art workshops — Our Dream Aeroplane

During the art sessions, the children built model aeroplanes from cardboard and various decorative materials. Working on the constructions allowed them to develop their imagination, manual skills and creative approach to the subject of aviation. The resulting projects were full of original ideas and represented the product of teamwork and commitment.

It was a wonderful time that we hope all the children will fondly remember. We invite you to view the photo gallery from the day camp and to visit the Museum during future events and educational activities.
