Children’s Day in the Clouds – It Was a Super Sunday!

DURATION:01 / 06 / 2025 - 01 / 06 / 2025

In 2025, the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków invited children and their guardians for a special day full of sky-high experiences! As part of the specially prepared educational and entertainment programme “Children’s Day in the Clouds”, visitors had the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of aviation – both from the theoretical and practical side! All included in the price of Museum admission.

Event programme:

A guide with a group of children returning to the Main Building
A guide in the Engine Hall with a group of young visitors

9:30–10:30 – Discover the fascinating world of aviation with a guide!
A guided tour of the Museum exhibition took place – an excellent way to learn about the history of aviation in an accessible and engaging way. During the walk, participants saw unique machines and heard their extraordinary stories. They also discussed the basic laws of physics and mechanics behind the ability of aircraft to fly. There was an opportunity to see both the oldest exhibits in our Museum and more modern ones, reaching breathtaking speeds and impressing with innovative technical solutions. The guide’s narration was adapted to different levels of knowledge and delivered in language accessible to children, school students and parents alike. The tour lasted about an hour.

11:00–11:40 – Paper aeroplane folding workshops and competitions
This was an excellent opportunity to develop manual skills, creativity and a spirit of healthy competition. During the workshops, children folded paper aeroplanes by hand and then took part in competitions for the longest distance and longest flight time! Since 2012, the record in the latter category has been held by Takuo Toda, whose aeroplane stayed airborne for 27.9 seconds. That same year, Joe Ayoob set the distance record by throwing an aeroplane designed by John Collins an impressive 69.14 metres. Unfortunately, during “Children’s Day in the Clouds”, these records were not broken…

12:30–13:30 – Aerolaboratory – science show
What is the difference between a glider and a helicopter? How is it possible that a balloon rises and an aeroplane flies? During the show, children learned how different types of aircraft work and had the chance to test their models in practice. The session ended with a short guided walk around the exhibition, during which participants saw the real machines they had heard about earlier, and even went inside a real aircraft!

10:00–11:30 – Film screening in the cinema with real aircraft seats
On Sunday afternoon, there was also a screening of an animated family film about a clumsy but extremely ambitious pigeon who dreams of becoming a hero. Set against the backdrop of World War II, this production full of humour and warmth tells a story of courage, friendship and fulfilling dreams.
